Dental Procedures
After having a necessary tooth extracted, some may encounter varying degrees of deterioration of the jaw ridge width and height at the site of the socket, as the natural healing of the socket will never result in a full bone fill. As well, any damage during the procedure and less than optimal post-extraction healing of the site can result in further deformity of the ridge at the site of the extracted tooth.
Socket Preservation
is a procedure in which graft material is placed in the socket of an extracted tooth at the time of extraction to preserve the height and width of the bone at the site. Socket preservation can rebuild or preserve the bone left in the tooth socket, providing the opportunity for a future placement of a dental implant or bridge on a stable platform of jaw bone.
